Résumé

Divers australopithèques ont été découverts au XX^e siècle, au Bostwana, au Kenya, au Tchad, en Éthiopie. C’est également dans cette région que l’équipe du Middle Awash Project a découvert en 1992 des ossements d’un hominidé un peu différent, Ardipithecus ramidus, qui a fait l’objet en octobre 2009 d’un travail exhaustif réalisé par des équipes de paléontologues du monde entier (dont trois françaises).

Abstract

An international team of paleontologists reports in Science an early hominid species, Ardipithecus ramidus and its environment. The features are shared by Sahelanthropus tchadensis, and these similarities confirm that Sahelanthropus is not an extinct ape. They help us bridge the more recent part of human evolution with the early human fossils and older ape fossils.
